PEDIATRIC RESEARCH IN OFFICE SETTINGS (PROS)

Acorn Pediatrics is proud to participate in the American Academy of Pediatrics clinic-based research program, Pediatric Research in Office Settings, known as PROS. The program consists of a group of more than 1800 pediatricians from across the country engaged in research to improve the health of children and adolescents by enhancing primary care practice. PROS has studied diverse child health topics including

  • Assessment of young infants with fever
  • Management of asthma in pediatric practice
  • Description of the earlier age of onset of puberty in girls
  • Currently analyzing data from a similar study to describe puberty in boys
  • Identifying effective strategies to assist teens to stop smoking
  • Identifying effective strategies to reduce obesity in children as well as many other topics.

When Acorn Pediatrics is participating in a particular study, you may be asked to take part in a survey or other data collection. We feel this is an important way to contribute to the health of not only our patients in Montana, but also the health of children everywhere. Your child will only be involved in a research project if you give written consent.

EXCITING NEWS!

Dr Daniels recently returned from the meeting of PROS state coordinators in Chicago.  PROS is currently in the process of developing a subsection of PROS, "ePROS."  This subsection will direct attention to studies that can best be done in an electronic medical record.  Initially, this endeavor will be piloted in small independent practices and Acorn Pediatrics has been chosen to be one of the early practices involved in the new research method.  There is minimal research information available with electronic medical records in pediatrics.  This is a unique opportunity to participate in this potentially groundbreaking research.
